Turkey launched an initiative on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly to address artificial intelligence's rising energy demand ahead of the COP31 climate summit in Antalya in November, Reuters reported on 21 September. [1]

The incoming Turkish COP presidency said it was developing the voluntary Antalya Pledge on Artificial Intelligence with the UN International Telecommunication Union. A draft is due before the summit and would encourage transparency on energy use and cleaner electricity for AI infrastructure. [1]

ContextTurkey also launched a separate 35x35 initiative aimed at increasing electricity's share of final global energy consumption to 35% by 2035 through clean power, storage and grid modernisation. Both initiatives are proposed international pledges, not binding national rules. [1]
