Romania’s second-quarter economy was 0.4% smaller than a year earlier on an unadjusted basis, according to provisional National Institute of Statistics figures released on 7 September and reported by SeeNews. The release confirms the earlier flash estimate. Seasonally adjusted GDP was unchanged from the first quarter. [1]
Final consumption fell 2.4% year on year in April–June, while gross fixed capital formation rose 16.5%. Industry contracted by 4.2%, whereas construction expanded by 15.3%, the report said. [1]
ContextThe figures describe the April–June period, not a new fall in output on the publication date. They show investment and construction supporting activity while consumption and industry weakened; flat quarterly GDP does not mean output has recovered to its year-earlier level. [1]
