GERB’s executive committee decided on 8 September not to nominate a candidate in Bulgaria’s presidential election. Party leader Boiko Borissov said GERB would also not provide unsolicited support to another contender, The Sofia Globe reported from the party statement. [1]
ContextThe decision removes Bulgaria’s largest established centre-right party from the field under its own banner and leaves its voters without a formal party nominee. The first round is scheduled for 25 October, with a possible runoff on 1 November. [1]
