Bosnia and Herzegovina entered election silence at 07:00 on 3 October ahead of voting on 4 October. The Central Election Commission said the silence will remain in force until polls close at 19:00 on election day. [2]

The commission said this will be the country's first election to use biometric voter identification, ballot scanners and rapid transmission of results. It accredited 2,432 central observers, while local commissions accredited roughly 25,000 more; voting will also take place at 20 diplomatic and consular missions in 13 countries. [2]

ContextThe vote will choose the tripartite presidency, national parliament and regional legislatures. Its outcome may affect Bosnia's stalled EU path and the balance of US, European and Russian influence, but the new technology and observer presence do not by themselves determine the conduct or result of the election.
